P1090797 smelly teds socks

Bit of a bizarre one this week – hat, scarf and boots for my sister’s teddy bear. He’s going on holiday with her and needed some clothes to keep him warm (one is apparently never too old for a teddy bear!). She sent the measurements to us. My mum knitted the scarf and hat, I crocheted his little boots for him. Double knit wool, and a nice simple project.

Latest commission – a 10″ x 8″ embellished photograph. Not my usual style – a bit too pretty pretty. But it’s what they ordered! Photo transfer on to canvas, embellished with embroidery silks, couching, goldwork techniques.

NB : you may notice there is no week 32 – unfortunately I’ve been ill, so life has been on hold!

Week 30: 24th July – 30th July 2013

Crocheted yarn pot – for putting your yarn in when knitting or crocheting to stop it getting dirty or being played with by cats! This is a larger version than my previous one, and is my own pattern. You can thread the yarn out through the top (centre of the flower) or through a hole in one of the ends. This is made from a chunky acrylic yarn so that it’s washable and doesn’t felt. It’s a present for a friend who has a new kitten.

pillowcases irish crochet lace

A few weeks back I made a couple of strips of Irish crochet lace. After various ponderings, I decided to attach them to pillowcases. Had to be hand-stitched on, due to the thinness of the heading strip on the lace, but look quite good. (So modest!). The pattern for this came from a J & P Coats publication : Irish Crochet, book no. 535. They still produce crochet cottons, patterns, and other craft materials.Β  The copyright belongs to Coats, and they will not permit a PDF of the pattern to be made available on-line, even though the booket is out of print. You can however find a similar pattern here: and here

crochet lace

Irish crochet lace (click on the photo to see the details). MadeΒ  using crochet cotton and 0.75 hook. Fiddly but beautiful. Might use it to edge a pillowcase.

yarn pot

OK, so any guesses?

yRN POT2

Yes, that’s right. A little pot for my yarn. I crochet, and I also use nice wool that comes in skeins and has to be wound into balls. The only problem is, the little round balls roll all over the place and I spend my time chasing them across the room. Hence this creation. And it works. The balls whizz round inside, and the wool / crochet cotton comes out through the hole in the top. I’m going to have to make myself some in different sizes…
